JOB: Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1, UCD School of English, Drama & Film

2 months, Part-Time (16 hours per week)

Applications are invited for a temporary part-time post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of English, Drama & Film.

The successful candidate will work on the Research Ireland Discover funded project “Miasma: Trust, Data and Public Health” under the direction of Professor Gerardine Meaney. This is an interdisciplinary initiative that uses drama, debate and online multimedia to provide a historical and contemporary perspective on the scientific conflict surrounding cholera in the 1850s, and thereby illuminate contemporary debates on pandemic management, public health and science communications. It uses theatrical experience to communicate scientific methods, the basis of data science and the nature and history of epidemics to diverse audiences with limited previous engagement with science. The project will centre around performances of Colin Murphy’s historical documentary play, Miasma, which tells the story of the pioneering use of data analytics in the fight against the cholera pandemic in the 1850s.

Applications are invited from researchers in the fields of drama/theatre studies, medical humanities, and cultural analytics/digital humanities. Applications are particularly welcome from those with an interest in public humanities, with arts and medicine or with the role of theatre in engaging new sections of the public with research in science and humanities. This part-time role offers unique opportunities to develop skills at the intersection of arts and science in the context of the vibrant UCD Centre for Cultural Analytics.

Fixed Salary: €45,847 Per Annum

Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on the 15th of April 2025.
