The Irish Humanities Alliance (IHA) is an all-island initiative that brings together scholars and researchers from the humanities community within eleven higher education institutions.

The IHA member institutions are Dublin City University, Technological University Dublin, University of Galway, Maynooth University, Queen’s University Belfast, Royal Irish Academy, Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork, University College Dublin, University of Limerick and Ulster University.

Members of the IHA collaborate in building understanding of the value of disciplines in the humanities; in highlighting their impact on social, economic and cultural development; and in strengthening the humanities perspective on key issues in education and research.

The IHA is seeking applications for the position of Coordinator for the Alliance. This post is an attractive opportunity for a candidate with experience in the promotion and development of humanities research and teaching to work on the development of an exciting programme of actions designed to shape public policy. The opportunity comes at a pivotal moment in the higher education and research environment in Ireland and in Northern Ireland, and internationally.

Key purpose of role

The Irish Humanities Alliance works to generate public awareness of the importance of humanities teaching and research in higher education and society at large, and to inform and shape public policy. The IHA has three key objectives:

  • To promote a renewed strategic awareness among its partners of the opportunities afforded by new developments in teaching and learning, and in research
  • To stimulate innovative thinking so as to strengthen the role that the humanities play in IHA partner institutions, in the higher education systems to which they belong and in the international partnerships in which they are embedded
  • To facilitate greater international awareness and involvement in advocacy, outreach and research among its partner institutions
