City of London scholarship for Irish students working on Irish literature
To mark the first State Visit to the United Kingdom (and to the City of London) by an Irish Head of State earlier this year, the City of London Corporation announced funding for a Scholarship – the City of London Scholarship – in the field of Anglo-Irish literature. The Scholarship, which was referred to by President Higgins during his Guildhall speech, will be awarded on the basis of outstanding academic merit and potential to a graduate student seeking further study, either at Masters’ or PhD level. It will be worth £25,000 and tenable for 1 year.
It is envisaged that the first Scholarship will be awarded in the Summer of 2015 for the 2015-16 academic year. The criteria and eligibility for the award of the Scholarship are set out in the Annex to this letter. They will also appear on the City of London Corporation ‘s website. Irish Citizens or (recognising the City of London’s historic links) UK Citizens with a strong association with Northern Ireland will be eligible to apply.
