PhD Scholarship in Regional Theatre in Waterford Institute of Technology
Closing Date: 7th June 2013

Waterford Institute of Technology is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity to enable a student to undertake a full-time structured PhD in the Institute in Theatre Studies.

The project is directed towards documenting and understanding the rich theatrical heritage of Waterford and the South-East region, a regional theatre heretofore considered marginal in Irish theatre studies. The research will consider how the region is documented and expressed through the dramatic texts and theatre practice that emanate from it and will centre on the work of playwright Jim Nolan and the Red Kettle Theatre Company. The project will examine the means by which the company in its productions, and the playwright in his works (many produced by Red Kettle), can be seen to “perform the region”, establishing, critiquing, maintaining and developing regional identity. The project will draw on the archive of Red Kettle Theatre Company for the first time now available.

The programme is fully funded and a monthly stipend will be paid to the successful candidate.

Further application details can be found on the Waterford Institute of Technology website at:
