EVENT: Deirdre Kinahan in Brazil

Deirdre Kinahan, renowned Irish playwright, is set to visit Brazil this month for significant literary events. 

 Kinahan will attend the launch of the Brazilian Portuguese translation of her play “Knocknashee” (2002), titled “Knocknashee, a colina das fadas”, published by Editora Iluminuras in 2025. The translation is a collaborative effort by Beatriz Kopschitz Bastos and Lúcia K. X. Bastos.

A rehearsed reading of her play “An Old Song, Half Forgotten”, translated and directed by Domingos Nunez, as “Uma velha canção, quase esquecida”, performed by Cia Ludens theatre company, will follow the launch.

The events close the project “Irish Theatre, Protagonism and Disability”, a significant initiative exploring the intersection of Irish theatre and disability, developed by Núcleo de Estudos Irlandeses (NEI) at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) in partnership with Cia Ludens.

The project is supported by Irish organizations, including the Emigrant Support Programme of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ireland, the Embassy of Ireland in Brazil, and the Consulate of Ireland in São Paulo.
