EVENT: Poetry Beyond the Page
The first event in the new Poetry Beyond the Page series took place on September 26, 2024.
The Series features conversations with poets about their creative processes, their life trajectories, and many other conversations around poetic creation, translations and transculturations, belongings linked to the Irish tradition and beyond, as well as recitations of original texts accompanied by their translations into Portuguese. Contemporary Irish poetry in dialogue and translation!
The program will be presented by Gisele Wolkoff, associate professor of the Multidisciplinary Department, Institute of Human and Social Sciences at the Fluminense Federal University, member of GREAT (Adaptation and Translation Study Group) and coordinator of GEAA (Art Asia Study Group).
In September, the event will feature Michael Kearney, Associate Professor at Kogakuin University in Tokyo. Kearney holds a PhD (Literary Theory and Criticism, University of Limerick), an MA (Literature, CW Post LIU), and a BA (Literature, Stony Brook University); he has published articles and chapters on topics including literature, identity formation, auditory art, retinal art, and philosophy. He is the editor of From Conflict to Recognition: Moving Multiculturalism Forward and 100 Years of the American Dream: Representations and Conceptions in American Literature, 1919-2019 , the author of Four Letter Words (a book of poetry), a frequent contributor of poetry, prose, retinal art, and auditory art to One Imperative magazine , and is the founder of The Symbolic Order , a collaborative project that examines the intersections of image, sound, and text.
