The Irish Humanities Alliance (IHA) is pleased to announce the Launch of ‘By Imagination We Live’: A Strategy for the Humanities, 2020-2030by Professor Dame Marina Warner, writer, literary critic and Professor of English and Creative Writing at Birkbeck College. The lunch will take place at 6.15pm, on Wednesday 6 November 2019, in the Royal Irish Academy.
The IHA was formed in 2013 to address the central place of the humanities disciplines in higher education. Since its establishment, the IHA has worked to generate public awareness of the importance of humanities teaching and research in higher education and society at large and has provided a platform for all-island humanities collaboration and consultation. This has enabled the diverse range of humanities disciplines across the island to speak with a single voice.
‘By Imagination We Live’ outlines a significant all-island vision for the humanities is based on an extensive and in-depth consultation with our member institutions, the 10 universities in Ireland and Northern Ireland and the Royal Irish Academy, which hosts and supports the IHA. The Strategy is rooted in a belief that the humanities disciplines have a major contribution to make to the most pressing social, political, cultural, technological and environmental issues of the 21st century.
