CFP Éire -Ireland: Ireland and the Contemporary
Éire-Ireland: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Irish Studies welcomes submissions for a Spring/Summer 2017 special issue on Ireland and the Contemporary.
Since all cultural production, events, and social formations—however recent—are already subjects of the past by virtue of the passage of time, scholarly analysis necessarily involves consciousness of one’s historical perspective. And yet in Irish Studies that recent past remains a relatively unexplored critical landscape. At the same time scholarly writing, though dedicated to historical topics, happens emphatically in the present and is therefore subject to contemporary writing styles. New media and new genres adopted by historians, literary scholars, and social scientists have moved the profession toward publishing on the web through short-form essays, blogs, digital-project sites, and even Twitter, resulting in the need for a reflexive consideration of recent changes in scholarly writing and their impact.
The guest editors thus welcome submissions on all aspects of the history of the contemporary and the practice of contemporary writing in Irish Studies. We encourage contributions from scholars writing on current social trends, recent cultural events, publications, exhibitions, installations, etc., as well as contributions on the theoretical aspects of writing about the contemporary and writing in the contemporary moment in Irish Studies.
The deadline for submissions, which should be between 6,000 and 10,000 words, is 1 September 2016. All submissions will be subject to peer review. Literature and Arts submissions should be prepared according to the MLA Style Manual; History and Social Sciences submissions should adhere to the Chicago Manual of Style. In addition, if you plan to submit an article for consideration by the editors, please adhere to the directions given in the style guide for the journal.
