Invitation to the launch of the Woodman Diary
An Foras Feasa and Maynooth University Library are pleased to invite you to attend the launch of The Woodman Diary on Wednesday 10 June 2015, featuring author and historian Turtle Bunbury.
The event will take place in the First Floor Seminar Room of the Iontas Building on Maynooth’s North Campus. A pre-launch preview of the diary will begin at 4 PM. The launch event itself will begin at 5 PM, and will be followed by a reception.
The Woodman Diary, a digitised and fully transcribed version of an Irish First World War soldier’s diary, offers a fascinating and intimate look at day-to-day life behind the front lines of the Western Front. Albert Woodman was a signaller in the Royal Engineers and stationed in Dunkirk. From January 1918 to November 1918, he kept a daily record of his life, which he intended for his wife, Nellie. The project was developed by students enrolled in An Foras Feasa’s Digital Scholarly Editing module under the supervision of Professor Susan Schreibman, Director of An Foras Feasa.
