PUBLICATION

Update June 2005

The peer review process for IASIL 2004 is now drawing to a close. A full report on publication will be delivered at the meeting of the IASIL Executive in Prague. Everyone who submitted a paper for consideration should therefore hear back from us during June and early July.

Three volumes of proceedings are scheduled for publication. Volume 1 will be exclusively devoted to Irish theatre, Volume 2 to Irish Women's Writing, and Volume 3 to new critical approaches to Irish writing and culture.

A full list of contributors and publication details will be made available online after all contributors have been notified of the status of their papers.

Original Notice

Stylesheet

It is hoped that, as in previous years, a selection of papers will be published after the conference, though this has yet to be confirmed.

Any publication(s) that emerge(s) from the conference will be subject to independent peer review. Acceptance of a paper for delivery at the IASIL 2004 Conference does not automatically guarantee publication.

The publication deadline is likely to fall soon after the conference - probably in September 2004 (though this is subject to confirmation).

Further information about publication will be available on this page in due course.

Queries may be addressed to conference@iasil.org

Update - July 2004

A message was sent by email to all speakers at IASIL 2004 at the end of July 2004, in which information about publication was included. Below is an edited version of the email.

Now that this year's conference has concluded, we are moving forward to the process of publishing selected papers from the conference. We intend to publish a volume or volumes of selected papers, which will address some of the themes that arose during the conference.

If you wish to be included in the conference proceedings, the first step is to write to us BEFORE 21 August 2004, to indicate your interest in being published. You need only include your paper title at that time. We will send a stylesheet and further information to all interested speakers after 31 August .

The second step is to submit your complete paper to us on or before 31 October 2004. All papers must be 5,000 - 6,000 words in length, and should follow the guidelines that we will send to you.

After we receive your paper, it will be sent to a panel of independent academic assessors. Your paper will then undergo peer review, and a recommendation with regard to publication will be made or withheld. We will contact you about the status of your paper by 4 January 2005, requesting amendments where necessary.

Revised papers will be required by 12 February 2005. These will then enter the copyediting and design phase. It is proposed that any/all publications will issue before IASIL 2005, which takes place in Prague in July 2005.

If you feel that you would be in a position to deliver a paper under the conditions described above, then we would very much like to hear from you. Expressions of interest should be sent to the conference organisers BEFORE 21 August 2004.

Please note that the publication process will operate within a very tight limitations with regard to deadlines, funding and other issues. This has a number of consequences:
- All papers will be subjected to independent peer review.
- As explained in the pre-conference literature, it will not be possible for
us to publish all papers received; delivery of a paper at IASIL 2004 does
not guarantee acceptance of your paper for publication.
- Any papers which miss the abovementioned deadlines - at any stage in the
process - will be excluded from the publication process. Similarly, any
papers that do not do not follow the stylesheet that we will issue to you
after 21 August will also be excluded from the process.

It was a great privilege for us to host so many excellent papers during
IASIL 2004 - many of which are, we feel, breaking important new ground in
the field of Irish Studies. We feel that it is important to build on the
momentum generated by the conference, and to bring the many excellent papers
delivered during the week to a wider audience. We hope therefore that you
will consider participating in this project.

Please note that only people who spoke at IASIL 2004 may participate in this project.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

The IASIL 2004 Conference Organising Committee.
