IASIL Conferences 2001 |
The International Association for the Study of Irish Literatures (IASIL) held its 2001 annual conference at Dublin City University, jointing hosting with St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra, on 30th July-3rd August 2001. The conference directors were Pat Burke and Barbara Freitag. The Conference topic “Odysseys” addressed themes and metaphors of travel and quest as they manifest themselves across time and space, languages and cultures. Media culture and Irish language strands rank among the new emphases of this conference. Keynote speakers at the conference included Luke Gibbons, formerly of DCU and now a chair-holder at Notre Dame University, and Máirín Nic Eoin, also of DCU, who has written major criticism on literature in Irish. |
