Remembering Werner Huber
from Margaret Kelleher, IASIL Chairperson:
We, members of IASIL, are deeply saddened to hear today of the sad passing of our esteemed colleague Professor Werner Huber. We salute Werner as a world scholar in Irish literature and drama and as a steadfast champion of Irish studies and Irish culture within Europe and beyond.
His contributions to IASIL as member of the Executive and as Vice Chair for Europe for 9 years (2000-2009) were immense as were his contributions to the foundation and development of EFACIS, the German Society for English Romanticism, the German Society for Contemporary Theatre and Drama in English, amongst other organisations. He contributed generously to many advisory boards in our field, including those of Litteraria Pragensia,Canadian Journal of Irish Studies, Irish Studies Review and Irish University Review.
We will miss greatly his wisdom, his deep and quiet generosity to fellow scholars, and his infectious sense of humour.
We send our heartfelt sympathy to his family Edith, Anna and Katharina, and to his very many friends.
Solas na bhflaitheas dá anam uasal/ A sovereign light be on his noble soul.
