THREE NUI CENTENNIAL POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS IN IRISH STUDIES (€80,000) Graduates holding doctorates of recognised universities and higher education institutions in Ireland and elsewhere and whose doctorates are in any of the areas of Irish Studies, as defined above, are eligible to apply for the Fellowship. Application forms and other relevant documentation Closing date for applications: Friday, 30 May 2008 PhD Scholarship : Enlightenment, peripheries and the transmission of ideas: The Magazine of Magazines ( Limerick: Andrew Welsh, 1751-1769) The scholarship arises as a result of the University of Limerick's participation in the Irish Social Sciences Platform (ISSP) which brings together expertise from eight Irish institutional partners and 19 academic disciplines to create a truly all-island, interdisciplinary platform for social science research. ISSP has been granted €16.5m as part of the Programme for Research in Third-Level Institutions (PRTLI), Cycle 4. The project will explore the transmission of ideas between continental Europe, Britain and the west of Ireland via this periodical. A number of approaches are possible: for example, a candidate with a good knowledge of French or German might choose to investigate the place of literature emanating from these language areas in the publication. Closing Date 17.00 hours on Friday 25 April, 2008 http://www.nuigalway.ie/arts/fellowships.html Professor and Academic Director, The Trinity Long Room Hub Closing Date: Friday, 28th March, 2008 Trinity College Dublin seeks to appoint a scholar of international repute to lead the development of the Long Room Hub, Trinity's Research Institute for the Arts and Humanities. It is intended that the appointment will take effect from October 2008 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The Academic Director, who will have the status of a full Professor in one of the five associated Schools in the College's Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, will be appointed to the Directorship for a period of five years. At the end of this five-year period, the appointee will revert to one of the Schools as a full-time, permanent, academic of Professorial status. As well as being a renowned academic, the Academic Director will be an outstanding leader and manager with the ability, vision and drive to lead the Trinity Long Room Hub in the achievement of the College's objective of having world-class standing in the Humanities. He or she will have successfully led a comparable institute elsewhere, or will be able to demonstrate the potential to do so. It will be launched in Autumn 2008 in co-operation between the Moore Institute, NUI Galway, The Long Room Hub, Trinity College Dublin and The Graduate School, the Doctoral Fellowships, NUI Maynooth and St Patrick's College Drumcondra An Foras Feasa: the Institute for Research in Irish Historical and Cultural Traditions is a consortium of four partner institutions: NUI Maynooth, St Patrick's College Drumcondra, Dundalk Institute of Technology and Dublin City University.
