Applications are invited at Queen's University for a lectureship tenable from 1 August, 2004 in Nineteenth-Century Irish Literature in English.

The School of English is a large and successful department with a strong record in research and teaching. The successful applicants will be expected to contribute fully to the success of the School, by conducting research at a level in keeping with the School’s objective of maintaining or improving on its ‘5’ rating in the last RAE, and by undertaking high quality teaching at undergraduate and M.A. level both within the area of their specialisms and more widely in the field of English Literature.

Applicants must have a primary degree or equivalent in English or a cognate subject and a completed doctorate in a relevant subject area; demonstrable ability to produce suitably excellent research (at RAE Grade 5/5*) in the specialist area in English of the post(s) they are applying for, with a strong publications record, appropriate to their stage of career.

Applicants for the Lectureship in Nineteenth-Century Irish Literature in English must also have experience of teaching nineteenth-century Irish literature in English at tertiary level and must demonstrate an ability to teach more generally in the area of English Literature.

Applications are invited for the full-time, permanent post of Director, Centre for Irish Studies. The appointment, which will be made at Senior Lecturer level, is an academic position which involves the planning, management, and administration of the activities of the Centre.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD degree and must have an established academic reputation in teaching, research, and publication in the area of Irish Studies. Experience in the development of academic programmes in Irish Studies will be an essential requirement as will a record of involvement with Irish Studies both nationally and internationally. The Director will occupy a leadership role and will have responsibility for directing teaching, research, and other appropriate activities conducted under the auspices of the Centre in accordance with the general policies determined by the Board of Irish Studies. The person appointed will have a high degree of fluency in Irish and English.

Associate Professor of Irish Studies, Georgia Southern University

Full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor of Irish Studies. The successful candidate will also become Director of the Center for Irish Studies. Established in 1995, the Center has a multifaceted mission including academic responsibilities for the Irish Studies minor and the Summer Study Abroad Program in Ireland. Ph.D. in English required by the starting date of the position, August 1, 2004. Salary competitive and rank dependent upon qualifications. All applicants must have a minimum of two years teaching experience at the college or university level and have demonstrated the ability to work with a diverse student body. Applicants seeking appointment as associate professor must have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience and scholarship consistent with rank. Knowledge of Irish literature and culture, an ability to run the Center for Irish Studies, a minimum of one year of administrative experience, including experience with fundraising are required. Candidate must possess the ability to teach World Literature courses in the Core Curriculum. Ability to teach Shakespeare preferred.
