IASIL NEWSLETTER |
|
Secretary's Report December 2002 Greetings to all members, new and old. You will see here that there is a new number
of the electronic newsletter which has just been posted. I will have also advised all members with
current email addresses of its appearance.
We are attempting to increase the effectiveness
and the number of conference listings for other organisations of Irish
Studies and related interests, and have also begun an Announcements
page which includes events other than future conferences, as a service
to our members. One announcement
of particular interest to members concerns
Michael Kenneally, former Chair of IASIL, to whom we offer
our congratulations on his new position in Canada! And don’t forget
to look up the details of IASIL’s own 2003 conference at the University
of Debrecen in Hungary.
We are particularly interested to hear from members
with announcements of new posts advertised or appointed in the field,
of new major publications by members, of journals which are planning
dedicated Irish Studies issues, and to receive press releases from
Irish Studies Summer Schools. We
also welcome announcements of graduate students conferences and publications.
Patrick Lonergan has been working on the new independent
IASIL website and in 2003 the newsletter will be moved to that site,
with links here continuing, although this site will be phased out
eventually. Thusfar there are no photographs included, but that is
largely because of lack of digital photo input from members – so be
advised and send your digital photos in future!
Does anyone out there have such photos from the conference
in Brazil? I am sure that members who were unable to
attend would love to see them.
Please, again, do keep me apprised of email address
changes, and I join with Chris Murray in urging members to vote in
the forthcoming elections and to also consider more active participation
in our great organisation. Also available to member on this site is
an IASIL subscription form – for yourselves or to give to friends
and colleagues.
I will be in Ireland for a long stay over the holidays,
but am available to members at my regular email address while there.
I wish you all a Happy Christmas and the best in 2003.
