EFACIS:Ireland: Representation and Responsibility

This conference aims to engage in debate a wide range of disciplines, critical practices and media, in areas of literary studies as well as human, social and political sciences within Irish Studies on the theme: Representation and Responsibility. We welcome therefore presentations of 20 minutes papers, collaboration on panel discussions on specific themes, or exhibitions. We would welcome papers on cultural studies, law, political and social sciences, gender studies, theatre, literary studies, media and film studies, painting photography and music.

The conference timetable has now been put together. With a keynote speech by Ann Sadlemeyer, a reading by Glen Patterson, and panels on fiction, film, language, media, and many other interesting topics, it look set to be an excellent conference. We have copied the conference timetable into this website, and you may view it here. Final details should of course be confirmed with the conference organisers.

Swift Symposium and Annual Swift Discourse St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin

A special symposium on Jonathan Swift and the Politics in his Age will take place at 2.30 pm at St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, on 18 October 2003. Admission is free, but registration by email is required - contact Robert Mahony at the address above. On the following day, the Annual Swift Discourse for 2003 will be delivered by Denis Donoghue of New York University. Registration for this event is not required; the general public are welcome to attend. The discourse begins at 3.15 pm

American Conference for Irish Studies/West

Irish Theatre Magazine is hosting a week-long series of events to coincide with the Dublin Theatre Festival, culminating in a one-day academic symposium on “Conditions of Criticism: Models for Irish Theatre Today”, which will be held on 11 October, the final day of the Festival.

Confirmed participants include Ben Levitas (Goldsmith College, London), Cathy Leeney (UCD), Anna McMullan (TCD), PJ Mathews (St. Patrick’s College), Victor Merriman (Dundalk IT), Chris Morash (NUI Maynooth), Lionel Pilkington (NUI Galway), Shaun Richards (Staffordshire University), Brian Singleton (TCD), Clare Wallace (Charles University, Prague), Roy Foster (Oxford) and others.

Frank O’Connor Centenary Conference
