2002 IASIL NEWSLETTER

SECRETARY'S REPORT

This is the first Secretary’s Report in our new online format, and I hope members welcome this innovation.  Great thanks are due to Dr. William Lantry, Director of Academic Services, Center for Planning and Information Technology at The Catholic University of America, and to his staff, for providing the site for IASIL and much technical assistance.  It is hoped that the content and formatting of the newsletter will continue to grow and to improve with each edition.

Because not all members have provided email addresses, postal letters, in addition to email notification, have gone out to the entire membership, providing this address.

Contained within this online version of the newsletter are the same kinds of features provided in earlier paper versions.  In addition the officers and membership will now benefit from the convenience of the online newsletter being able to be updated regularly.  I have also added a copy of the subscription form provided by Treasurer, Patricia Lynch.  Please download as needed, either to renew your own subscription, or to bring to the attention of colleagues and graduate students.

I urge members to send information regarding forthcoming events and conferences of relevance to the membership, news of major publications, and available scholarships and fellowships.  If there are additional features you would like to see in future newsletters, please contact your representative on the IASIL executive. The executive is now able to discuss IASIL matters on an electronic listserve – thanks to the efforts of Don Morse and his tireless friend Len Hatfield in Virginia!

I also urge members to take the time to read both the Irish Studies Announcements and the EIRData pages.  The former contains varied information on new publications, events and other items of interest.  On the EIRData page you will find research opportunities (paid!) for yourselves or your students.

There are a few glitches remaining with the format.  Pages are listed and appear in alpha order, which doesn't suit our purposes.  The wizards at CUA's computer center are working on several refinements and I hope to update accordingly.

Finally - don't forget!  If you move, change affiliation or change email server or address, please contact Patricia Lynch and yours truly,

Tina Mahony
