Rodelle Weintraub suggests that for those travelling from the USA it might be worth checking out the Council for International Educational Exchange as a way of conjuring the kind of reductions on British Airways and Sabena usually reserved for under-26s. A faculty identification card for 1997 costs US$20 and includes medical insurance. Student ID is pipped at US$19. UK rates may be cheaper yet. Rodelle has included various other details relating to stopovers and route changes, all amounting to a demonstration that this works out better than Apex fares. She has offered help to any one who seeks it through her own travel agency. Seek, then, for this is also sooth: no one knows how to cut a travel deal like Rodelle Weintraub. For anyone with money to, well, give away, there is a good cause waiting. Liverpool Heritage Centre, a venue for 'authentic Irish culture' since 1965 is occuping a magnificent Grade II listed Palladian building of 1816 by Edmund Aiken, with a jewel-like ballroom with Adam ceiling and Wedgewood frieze by Flaxman. Now the building needs extensive maintenance, which is where the Friends of the Liverpool Irish Centre come in, at £50 or US$75 at head in return for membership, newsletter, and warm-hearted feelings. [We learned that the poor will inherit the earth, but to hear that the Irish have inherited the clubhouse of the richest 200 families of slave-trading Liverpool comes as a surprise.-Ed.].
