Back to the publications homepage Contemporary Irish Film: New Perspectives on a National Cinema A new book, 'Contemporary Irish Film: New Perspectives on a National Cinema', which was co-edited by Seán Crosson, Programme Director of the MA in Film Studies and the MA in Screenwriting at the Huston School of Film and Digital Media, NUIG, is being released which examines the last ten years of Irish cinema during 'The Celtic Tiger' era. Mr. Crosson said, "The unprecedented economic growth and immigration that Ireland experienced between 1995 and 2007 did not only challenge national but also ethnic, social and gender identities. The contributions to this volume explore how films tackle these challenges and help to make sense of Ireland's altered position in a globalised world." The book includes contributions from leading and emerging researchers of Irish film, including Ruth Barton of Trinity, Tony Tracy of NUI Galway, Díóg O'Connell, IADT Dun Laoghaire; and Eduardo Barros Grela University A Coruña, Galicia, Spain. The book is completed by an interview with award-winning director Lenny Abrahamson (What Richard Did, Garage), and his collaborator, screenwriter and actor Mark O'Halloran (Garage, Adam and Paul). Among the films discussed in the publication are Oscar winning 'Once', 'Adam & Paul', 'Garage' and 'The Secret of Kells'. The volume also includes a consideration of the work of Oscar-winning director and writer Neil Jordan. (Text from http://www.iftn.ie/)
