Call for Papers (now closed) Student Scholarships Announced

The 2007 IASIL conference takes place at University College Dublin Monday 16 July - Friday 20 July IASIL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS 2007 The following IASIL Student Scholarship awards were announced on May 10 2007. The committee praised the extremely high quality of the submissions and have decided as a result to award seven rather than the announced six. They will be awarded to:
Aisling McCormack Aboud ( University of California, Irvine): “Vertiginous Identifications: Race, Gender and Sexuality in The Crying Game”
Colleen Booker ( University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee), “’Shot through the Buzzom’: Nationalist Appropriation and Female Agency in Sean O’Casey’s Shadow of a Gunman”
Renee Fox, ( Princeton University), “Painting a Ginger Cat Black: Martin McDonagh and the Failure of Performance”
Caitlin McGuinness ( University of Western Australia), “Mementoes and Massacres: Souveniring the Past in Anna Burns’s No Bones”
Octavian Saiu ( University of Otago, NZ), “Au contraire: the ‘full Irish case’ of Samuel Beckett”
Amanda Tucker ( University of Miami), “Nationalism from an Immigrant Perspective: William Bulfin’s Rambles in Eirinn”
WEI Xurong ( University of Macau, China), “After the Kerry Babies: Children and Sexuality in Contemporary Irish Drama”
The scholarships will be awarded at a plenary session at the conference. We congratulate those who have received them and all those who submitted, on the high quality of their applications.
ORIGINAL ADVERTISEMENT - scheme now closed IASIL will offer six scholarships to assist overseas student members of IASIL to attend the conference at University College Dublin on 16-20 July 2007. Three scholarships will be worth Euro 1,000, and three will be worth Euro 500. The scholarships will be presented to the successful candidates during the conference. TERMS AND CONDITIONS
SUPPORT FUND: IASIL has a limited support fund available to assist members in financial difficulty to attend the conference. If you are not eligible to apply for a scholarship as outlined above, but wish to make a case for assistance from the IASIL support fund, please outline your situation in a brief letter to the Scholarship Committee and enclose a letter of support from an academic familiar with your work. To avail of support fund assistance, you must be a paid-up member of IASIL of at last three years standing and have your paper proposal accepted. Applicants for support fund assistance will be considered by the scholarship committee, whose decisions will be final. The final date for submission is April 20, 2007. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by May 10, 2007. Payment of the assistance will be made at the conference, and is conditional on the delivery of the proposed paper at the conference. Applications for the above should sent to: avroche@eircom.net |
